Scientists and scientifically interested practitioners of Business & Information Systems Engineering form the scientific community interested in the effective and efficient design and utilization of information systems by individuals, groups, enterprises, and society for the improvement of social welfare. Information systems are understood as socio-technical systems comprising tasks, people, and information technology.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0BISE journal\u00a0is the academic flagship journal of the community, while\u00a0WUM<\/a>\u00a0(Wirtschaftsinformatik und Management)\u00a0publishes manuscripts focusing on the practice of business and information systems engineering. \u00a0In the German-speaking countries there are more than 200\u00a0university professors, who are members of the section \u201cInformation Systems\u201d (WKWI)<\/a> of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB).\u00a0The special interest group \u201cBusiness Informatics\u201d (GI-FB WI)<\/a>\u00a0with more than 1200 members is part of the Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Informatik e. V. (GI). \u00a0The\u00a0WI and MKWI conferences constitute the\u00a0annual meetings<\/a>\u00a0of the community. There is an academic career network, which provides relevant news for doctoral students and postdocs (Wissenschaftlicher Nachwuchs Wirtschaftsinformatik<\/a>).<\/p>\n Internationally, members of the BISE community are organized in the\u00a0Association for Information Systems (AIS)<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0INFORMS Information Systems Society<\/a>.
